Beautiful golden cobs of ORGANIC POPCORN arrived from Lancaster Farm Fresh on Tuesday. For a tasty snack, just place a cob in a paper bag and microwave until popped, or use as a festive and edible centerpiece.

FROZEN LIMA BEANS will arrive from the Common Market Philadelphia on Wednesday. These Jersey-grown beans have been shelled, blanched and frozen whole, and will be waiting in your freezer to be sautéed with bacon or thrown into your favorite soup.

Get ready for more mouth-watering flavors from Capogiro Gelato Artisans. Expect BUTTERSCOTCH BOURBON GELATO, SWEET POTATO PECAN PRALINE GELATO, and CRANBERRY HEIRLOOM APPLE SORBETTO by Friday afternoon.

The season’s first full-sized carrots will arrive at the stand this week. Large, colorful RAINBOW CARROTS will be delivered by both Lancaster Farm Fresh and Tuscarora Organic Growers Co-Op at the beginning of the week, and Green Meadow Farm will bring us sweet, tasty NANTES CARROTS on Thursday afternoon.

Our shallot supply will be rejuvenated on Wednesday, with ORGANIC FRENCH RED SHALLOTS from Landisdale Farm and DUTCH YELLOW SHALLOTS from Tuscarora Organic Growers Co-Op.

TURKEY ORDER DEADLINES HAVE PASSED!

FARMSTAND THANKSGIVING HOURS

Open MONDAY through Wednesday 8AM - 6PM
WEDNESDAY is turkey pick-up day!
Thursday & Friday - CLOSED
Saturday - 8AM - 6PM
Sunday - 9AM - 4PM

We are gearing up for our busiest week of the year! Last year we sold almost 200 fresh turkeys - quite a feat for the little Farmstand - and this year we expect to sell more. Even with all the craziness, it's all very festive and fun.

What a perfect meal for celebrating local food. So many of the ingredients for the traditional Thanksgiving meal are available from our local family farms - sweet potatoes, pumpkin and other winter squashes, brussels sprouts, cranberries. We even have local cornmeal for those who like a cornbread stuffing.

We will be fully stocked with all your favorites PLUS several specially sourced products for your holiday table including, artisanal cheeses from Hendricks Farm, Calkins Creamery and Valley Shepherd Creamery, Little Isobel jams and preserves for your cheese plate, herb and fruit wood chips if you're smoking your turkey, even dried corn on the cob for popping!

Don't forget there is discounted parking in the garage at 12th and Filbert -$3/2 hours. We'll also be handing out free the new Reading Terminal Market bags to everyone who buys a turkey as well as anyone else that purchases at least $25 worth of items.

Red Cranberry Maple Ginger Sauce

4 cups cranberry (fresh or frozen), sorted and washed

1 large or 2 small apples, peeled, cored and cut into large pieces

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup maple syrup, or to taste

1/2 tsp gingerroot, finely grated

1/4 tsp of each (ground): cinnamon, nutmeg & clove (optional)

Combine cranberries, apples, ginger and water in a covered saucepan on medium low heat, for 5 minutes. Reduce heat to low, and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Set aside until cool to the touch. Stir in maple syrup, spices and mix well. Try with apple slices, nut butters & roasted vegetables!
